Just got done doing an oil and filter change on my car as well as spark plugs. I think it took longer waiting for the oil filter to get here than it did for us to do it all.
All cars spark plugs should be this easy. Just take off the cover and they’re all right there in the open with nothing obstructing them. Took maybe 10 minutes to take them out.
As for the oil, previous person who did it put a Fram filter in there which, shocker, was starting to collapse. Other than that the only hiccup was the fan (read: old furnace blower) we had blowing on us blew some oil over the engine bay. Bonus, I didn't spill any oil on myself which I always do!

Does the E36 use a cartridge on top? My E34 has one of those and it’s great. I don’t even have to jack up the car!

It does and I want to hug the person at BMW who decided to do it that way. No having to squeeze hands in tight places or burning them on hot components.

Yup. It’s freaking fantastic. I don’t know why more vehicles don’t have it like that.

That’s why I love doing oil changes on this engine. So easy to do. Sadly the same cannot be said for spark plugs..........

I did preventive maintinance and did an oil change at only 6000km, instead of the usual 10.000km i do. I did however also change the entire engine for different reasons, but i like to just call it an expensive oil job! :o

Changed my wife’s truck’s oil and my own today. Probably need to do plugs and air filters soon, honestly. I’m glad we’ve got vehicles with plenty of ground clearance because I still haven’t bought ramps/jacks due to my lack of storage space.

Should try a plug change on the BMW MINIs. Pop the hood, pull 4 plug wires, and pull out the plugs.
Oil filter, on the other hand, is a giant PITA. Needs a 36mm socket, and its behind the engine, against the firewall, against the exhaust manifold.
